Would you say that to someone’s face?

Would you say that to someone’s face?

(TW: rant about a news story I read of people dying in a car)

Y’all, I was in a MOOD yesterday. As Tom Cullen would say, “M O O N, that spells mood.”

I was scrolling through Facebook as I was having my coffee (probably my first mistake) and I saw a news story about three people being burned alive inside their Tesla (a low-key worry of mine since I have friends with a Tesla, so I try to keep half an eye on news stories about any recalls or anything).

I clicked on the comments to see where the link went (was it reputable?) and to see if hopefully someone in the first few comments would have summarized the story so I wouldn’t have to click the link and then have my feed be inundated with more stories from that news source.

One of the first comments was something along the lines of “they were probably Libs, so their arms were too weak to open the doors” and y’all, the way my soul left my body?! An adult and two children – CHILDREN – burned to death – BURNED ALIVE – in a car and those are the actual words coming out of your mouth? (Well, out of their fingers, since it was typed.)

We can probably assume that the adult was a parent. Would you say that to the spouse/partner who wasn’t in the car? Would you say that to their face? Because if someone had told me within 24 hours of Tim dying that “he was probably a Lib so his heart wasn’t strong enough to keep going” I would 100% still be in prison not giving up the info about where I put the body.

How is three people dying in a horrific way, in any way political? What in the actual fuck does that have to do with Republican, Democrat, whatever? How is anyone’s comment not just something like “that is awful”? What fundamental bit of empathy and compassion is missing in a human being that they would publicly say something that crass? That evil? What a dark and horrible place that person’s heart must be.

So…. Is this what we’re coming to? Is this really who we are? Is this who we’ve been the whole time and I just live in a compassionate bubble? What is fucking WRONG with people?

Also, what is wrong with ME? I should fucking know better than to read the comments!

Anyway, I couldn’t get it out of my mind all day (but no way in hell was I gonna get back on Facebook and call that guy out, because I already know that would be a waste of time). By the end of the day I was pretty much in a place of “that asteroid that’s coming our way had better take us out because my god.” But I got a good night’s sleep and I feel better this morning… if somewhat still a little full up on rage. Seriously. What is WRONG with us?

Here. Have a cute picture of Newt for getting through all that. Her little peets all curled up like that! So cute it should be illegal!

  1. now you know how people feel about assholes CELEBRATING the father of two small children murdered for things he may or may not have SAID. Not did, but just said.
I saw his wife interviewed late that day. “how do you explain to a three year old their father is never coming home?”

    1. “Now you know” implies that I have been either slinging insults or am ignorant of what’s going on out there in the world. I’m not. I have chosen not to talk about it. This post has nothing whatsoever to do with the topic of your comment and the family it references. This entire post was about how I don’t understand how someone could take something absolutely not political, and make it political. A post you either misunderstood as you left a political comment, or that you’re deliberately being a troll about, trying to bait people into a political argument. Would I come into your living room and shit on your carpet? No? Then don’t do that to me.

We’re done with this conversation. Any future comments about this will be deleted.

  2. The person who made that comment is probably a republican. They have no concept of proper behavior, proper thinking, empathy or common sense. Never used to be that way but that’s what the have degenerated in to. Scum.
