On Sunday, we had an impromptu gathering for our friend Mariana, her husband, and their two sons. Renato is taking a sabbatical from UF for a year, and the four of them are off to Amsterdam for fun and adventures.
Mariana is a wonderful, true, and amazing friend. She and I have more in common than two unrelated people raised in different countries have a right to be — I consider her one of my heart’s sisters. The next year is going to pass both quickly and slowly while she and her family are overseas, even though they are never really as far away as my own heart.
