Here’s to you, here’s to me, may we never disagree!

Here's to geek birthdays!Last night I went to a birthday party for one half of a couple with whom I used to spend a lot of time. Now I only see them maybe once a year, and I am reminded how the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Do you have those people in your life? People with whom  you pick up a conversation that you were having the last time you saw each other, maybe six months ago, and it is as if no time has passed? As if the eight or ten years that have passed since you saw them every day is suddenly gone, as if you are all ten years younger, as if no time has passed at all? Yeah. It’s like that. Only we have different clothes now.

It was good to see friends I haven’t seen in a while, to spend a little more quality time with people I’d only met casually before, and even meet a couple of new people who were quite funny and lovely.

Speaking of different clothes, I didn’t get a picture of it but about two hours before the party I decided that I did in fact have time to make that shirt I’d been thinking about sewing. I’d bought the cloth and the pattern quite a while ago, and with my new-found confidence from taking a couple of sewing classes, I was able to not only whip it out in 90 minutes but also make a couple of minor changes to the pattern that don’t look too horrible. It’s a little big (I was worried about making it too small) but we’ll see how it holds up after a couple of washings (and I did wash the cloth before working with it, Kim) (hee hee hee). Worst case scenario is I rip out the seams and make it smaller – something I’m now not afraid to do!
