Brain Fight

Brain Fight

Yesterday was interesting, a good first day to my experiment of switching my work day around, doing household stuff and writing FIRST, and studio stuff SECOND. So of course, because it worked, I’m fighting with my brain about doing the same thing again today. “It worked,” my brain says, “so you’re good. Why don’t you just go over to the studio for a few minutes? Check on and plan out what needs to be done today. I’m sure you won’t actually start working. You’ll just… look at things.” To which I’m like, “suck it, brain, you can’t pull that shit on me, I know full well that if I walk over there with the intention to do anything except feed the animals, that’s it, that’ll be all day.” I can feel my brain giggling maniacally and twirling it’s mustache.

Side note: do I know anyone who has one of those birdfeeders that has a camera in it? Kind of like this, although not necessarily this brand –

I’m just wondering if it’s worth it. It seems like a neat thing, but… do they really work? They’re kind of expensive – the price of at least two new trail cams, if not three. So just wondering if the price is comparable to the quality and enjoyment.

Anyway! Yesterday. I worked in the house until about 11 or so, then went over to the studio. Yesterday was a handbuilding day, and my plan is usually to start handbuilding by 9 and fill the table with as much work as possible and exhaust myself trying to finish before everything dries out too much to use. (Note to self: reevaluate that plan, it doesn’t seem very workable when you talk about it like that.) Instead, I chose a smaller number of things to make (three) because I knew they’d be labor intensive. I thought that if I finished them quickly, I could just wedge and slab roll some more after that. HAHAHAH. I had a few problems and I didn’t finish up with what I made until about 6, including a break for lunch and a break to feed the dogs dinner around 5.

So ultimately I finished working about the same time I usually shut the studio down, but I still had energy left over at the end of the work day to do a little with my dollhouse, journal (yes, there are things I write about that I don’t actually put out here in public for everyone to read!), eat dinner, and spend time outside with the dogs without feeling like I should be inside doing computer work.

It was interesting and I’m trying to do the same thing today, if my brain would just shut the hell up about how I’m not working already. I AM WORKING. Blogging is priming the pump for fiction writing, and I do have a chapter to finish and upload before Wednesday (if you’re following me on Patreon).

So. What now? I’m going to go vacuum all the carpets, clean off a little side table that’s been bugging me, water some houseplants, and that should get me to about 11 or 11:30, when I’ll go over to the studio and glaze some bisque and handbuild.

Have a lovely Sunday, y’all!

  1. We got a bird buddy for Christmas – it’s great! It takes pics/videos, make identifications, and sends it all to your phone!
