How I spent my day off

A nice place to wait out the rain #gainesville #kanapaha #waterfallI don’t take a large number of days off (you’ve all heard this song before). But on those rare occasions when I *do* take a day off, I play hard.

That Poor Man and I went and spent the day at the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens back in June. If you follow me on Instagram, you might remember — we got stuck in the rain in a gazebo at the end of a path, near a waterfall. It was just a terrible way to spend half an hour (I’m kidding, it was heavenly).

We went to the gardens for a couple of reasons. I love to go there any time I can (it’s always different every season) and That Poor Man has never been there when there wasn’t an event, like the Spring Garden Festival, or that time we were scouting it out for a wedding venue. Since we’re thinking of moving to some property, we want to soak up all the garden knowledge that we can… and a local Botanical Garden is the perfect place to look at native species and find out information about what can best grow in your area.

The main thing that I wanted to see were any sun-hardy, drought-tolerant flowers for a very open sunny spot in front of the house.

We spent most of the day at Kanapaha, which at 62 acres has quite a bit to look at. I will leave you with some of the many photos I took (I will spare you the hundred or so closeups of flowers).
