Honestly, why do I bother planning things?!

Taken from above looking down onto a desk, where a dog on the lap of the person is resting her head on the desk. One paw is stretched out as if she wants to type.

Before I left for WorldCon, say the three or four days before, I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to finish two or three custom orders I really wanted to get done before I left — I did get yarn club out, and I did remember to send out the Patreon postcards, but the other three things….? I had to message the people while I was on vacation to say “I’m really sorry I didn’t get those in the mail, I’ll get to them THE MINUTE I get back.”

Then I also got another two custom orders come in those same days “I’m getting ready to leave for a week and I have a couple of things before yours I need to finish first but I’ll get started on these as soon as I can!” …. And then to top it all off, UPS and USPS conspired to do me a dirty, and not one, not two, not three, BUT FOUR THINGS BROKE IN SHIPPING. So I’m adding remaking all of those things to the list of things I need to do as soon as I get back.

Then I get sick on vacation, and barely have enough energy to drag myself to a couple of appointments that I’d had to schedule for after I got back since I couldn’t do them before I left.

My god, y’all. What is my life, even?

I slept for almost 12 hours last night and today is the first day I almost feel like a human being since … last Saturday? I don’t even know what today is. It might be Thursday. But it also might be Saturday again? I don’t know, and I refuse to look at a calendar because it’ll just stress me out about how much I haven’t done since I got back around midnight on Monday.

But did I have a great time? No. Did I at least enjoy WorldCon? Also no. At least, was the hotel relaxing? Listen. I went, I came home.

It wasn’t the worse vacation ever (WorldCon 2024, when I had Covid, and spent an entire week in Glasgow looking out the hotel window). It wasn’t even the worst time I had in California (I’ve only been there twice; first time I was hospitalized, and second time my dad and stepmonster had a very public breakup fight followed by an ugly divorce). At least there were no earthquakes, nobody died, no planes crashed. I did get to Disneyland for the first time and I will have a post about that if my photos ever finish uploading.

Meanwhile, today I am going to try to unbury myself out of mountains of mail and laundry and things that need to be done for HaldeCraft. We’ll see how much I get done…. wish me luck. I’m almost even afraid to think about what needs to be done today lest I curse myself by making a plan for today that the Universe will laugh at and table flip.

My life is an open book; but somebody has torn out a few of the pages.
