How deep do I want to go into this miniature thing?

I mean, I can’t go TOO deep, things aren’t that big! Hah! I’ll be here all week. Tip your wait staff.

After I finish the Bayport House, I have two more houses (technically three, but I’m mashing two of them together) that I want to do. After I finish THOSE, I want to design and laser cut my own house kit and put it together. I’m sure I’ll find more things to do after that. And that doesn’t include room kits and book nooks (but all of those come with the “stuff” that goes inside).

So that’s a lot of houses that will need to be filled with stuff – furniture (which I can laser cut and paint, that was part of the plan when I got the M1), books, food, houseplants, and stuff.

There are a lot – a LOT – of really talented makers I’ve found on miniature communities who make little resin and polymer plates of food, who make books, who make lamps, who make make make. I could buy everything I need for every house. There are also a TON of printables on Etsy for printing out book covers and pantry items so that you can use those covers and labels to make your own (much cheaper than buying already finished miniature books and pantry items). But I don’t have a color printer. So do I buy everything I want, already made?

That would be super expensive. When I think of what I’ve already spent in supplies to reno the Bayport House….? I could easily spend four times that much also outfitting the Bayport House. Some of the supplies are so “in bulk” that I’ll have loads left over for the next house I do, if not even the house after that for some things. But every time I want to outfit a kitchen, ka-ching!

I’m kind of afraid to admit it to myself, because my god what a rabbit hole that’s going to be, but… I guess I should learn how to make my own resin and polymer foods and drinks. And buy a color printer so I can print out my own book covers and pantry items.

I think I’m going to need a new room in my house just for miniatures, for supplies, for working, to put all these dollhouses.

Oops. I didn’t *intend* to jump directly off the cliff into this. I have been obsessed with miniatures my whole life. All I planned to do originally was honor that and renovate my childhood dollhouse. Now I’m thinking about making my own tiny ceramic dishes and plate sets for at least three kitchens. Sigh.

This all kind of reminds me of about 20  years ago when I was like “Tim really wants me to sit and watch TV with him a lot and I can’t just sit there, maybe I’ll learn how to knit or crochet so I have something to do while I sit there” and then a few years later I owned a yarn store with two friends.

  1. Excellent ! Go directly down the rabbit hole ; might be dragon’s hoard in there. Mo used her summer earnings on the Lego city set because 1/4 of it is a bakery.

  2. Lorena, in Bolivia during Carnival, there’s a day to ritually bless your stuff. People also buy miniatures of things they want to achieve or acquire in the year to come. I have a tiny “dissertation “. You can buy livestock, cars, furniture, even husbands or wives… A yatiri, a kind of shaman, blesses there items, and will also divine your future.
