Sometimes I think she’s just messing with me

Time for snuggles!I love how Fat Cat can give such great BitchFace even when she’s the one who instigated the snuggle.

Old Dog gave me quite the fright this morning. You probably know if you’ve been reading my blog a while that Old Dog likes to be wherever I am, which makes me cringe when I leave a room for two minutes because it takes her almost two minutes to stand up. I feel so guilty when I come back in and she’s just gotten up to follow me. But now that she’s deaf she doesn’t always hear me get up in the morning, and even though I lean down to give her scritches every morning she doesn’t always wake up for them. So this morning I left her there (after making sure she was breathing) and came out to make my coffee and whatnot.

After about half an hour she still wasn’t in my office, and that’s an unusually long time. Usually it’s only about ten to fifteen minutes. So I went to check on her, because I did hear her whining. I turned on the light and she was at the foot of my side of the bed, still laying down, looking at me and whining. I gave her the signal I’ve been using for “come with me” and she tried just as hard as she always tries to get up, but to no avail.

This is it, I thought. She’s had a stroke or something during the night, and this is it, and our mobile vet JUST retired, and I’m going go have to call the new vet and be all “hey, we haven’t met yet, but can you come to my house and put my old dog down? and… gah.

Turns out she had just wedged herself under the bed, and was stuck under part of the frame, and couldn’t work her way out.

Sigh.

  1. Ohhh, I’m so glad that was the problem! That story could have been so much sadder. May Old Dog live happily and healthily for a long time!
