“I feel a  tremor in the Yarn…”

I feel a tremor in the Yarn...

“…the last time I felt it was in the presence of my old master…”

(Look behind you, Darth!)

Oh, was yesterday Valentine’s Day? Maybe I should have gone with Han and Leia! (I actually have a great idea for that photo, but need to wait until after I put the listing up because it needs to be in color for the full effect. Tee hee hee.)

Speaking of yesterday, I both did and didn’t get a lot of work done. As I was just telling Arne, who is going to come down and be my bitchslave … Intern … for a week at the end of the month, mailing out orders trumps everything else. So glazing ceramics and finishing with Monday’s soap and yarn was put to the back burner so that I could get February’s sock club out (spoiler photo here) and also pack up a few orders that came in Monday night/Tuesday morning. I do love packing up orders (I mean, I wouldn’t be able to keep working without them, right?) but I wonder sometimes if I’m the only Maker-person who, when packing up things for sale, only sees the imperfections. I’m sure they’re only in my head, but still. They jump out at me.

Last night Tim made us lamb chops and asparagus for dinner, and I swear he could make that every night and I’d be happy (it would be rather time consuming, though). He did make much more reduction than needed for the one meal, though, so darn we might have to have it again in the near future. That’d be a shame. Don’t throw me in that brier patch!

Alright; busy day ahead. Finishing Monday’s soap and yarn, and today is supposed to be yarn dyeing day anyway, so there’s more to do, and I have some things to glaze and get in the kiln. This Friday’s firing is going to be odd — only three pieces. Two plates (once more into the breach) and something that’s rather large and also a gift, so I won’t be able to show it in the photo. So on Saturday the photo will look like I fired my entire ginormous kiln for two plates. That’s hardly worth even taking a picture of, unless one of the plates actually turns out this time and I need to celebrate.

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

  1. Sometimes I get insecure and so when I’m packing things, I think things like, “I hope they like it” / “I hope they think it’s worth it” / “I hope they aren’t disappointed when it arrives” etc. Sometimes I feel like I have to defend myself and my pieces to myself if that makes any sense. I know it’s just the normal fear that just about anyone who deals in handmade gets sometimes (especially in a culture where “handmade” is often perceived as “inferior.”) So no, it’s not just you. *hugs*

  2. Have I told you how much i lurv everything you’ve sent to me? and the attention to wrapping & packaging is evident, even in a brown cardboard box with your seal (which I ‘regifted’ to my parents, with your card!).
And there is a distinct difference between “homemade” and “handcrafted”. My attempts at knitting are ‘homemade’ (trust me, no photos will ever see the light of day), your efforts are clearly ‘handcrafted’ (and lusted after, *sigh*). Take a deep breath, and remember there are people in this world who appreciate knowing who makes their soap, mugs, and hand-spun, hand-dyed yarn. I’m proud to include myself in that group.
