Linkdump: Abandoned Places

Cleaning out some saved sites, so I apologize if any of these are ones you’ve seen before!

I love abandoned places. Old falling-down houses, bricked-off subway stations, hotels that were never finished, power plants left to rot, empty hospitals and institutions. There’s just something so lonely, so stark, such a sense of death and decay (and maybe a little horror movie) to most of them. Here are a few that I’ve been saving to share…

I would be hard-pressed to choose a favorite photo from the Ruins of Gary, Indiana.

This abandoned theme park in New Orleans makes me think of Something Wicked This Way Comes (yes, even though that was a traveling circus).

An abandoned power station from the 1940s makes me think of all kinds of post-Apocalypse scenarios.

This 50-story building in Bangkok was never finished.

After touring seven abandoned breweries, yes; I would want a beer.

A Japanese pop-singer’s abandoned house and belongings.

More story than photos, but still good – Into the Tunnels of NYC.

Speaking of tunnels, how about the Paris Metro? Or the London Post Office Railway?

  1. Thank you for the Gary, Indiana link. That’s amazing. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. I kind of want to go on a wee pilgrimage.
