Whadda you lookin' atI thought a few times about taking my photo of the day yesterday, but who wants a photo of me cleaning out and organizing my packing supply closet?! So here’s a picture of a frog I took …. er… about six years ago. From the archives! Blast from the past! Deja vu!

Yesterday was quiet. I cleaned a lot of greenware, glazed some bisque (I’m now two Fridays behind in glaze firings, and one Monday behind, sigh), and as I mentioned above, cleaned out and organized my packing supply closet. Sharon just gave me some packing supplies that she’d had left over from Hanks, so I had to get everything to squish in.

Today is catching up on email, pre-blogging a few things, filing receipts, packing orders from the weekend to mail out tomorrow (er, tomorrow’s not a postal holiday, is it?), and later tonight … Game of Thrones! I’ve had two nights of good, solid, eight-hours of sleep. If I get one or two more, I may start feeling human again. Wheee!

Boba Fett on the loomInsert joke HERE about how Boba Fett is looming. Hahahah! Get it? Bounty Hunter yarn? And it’s on the loom? Looming? Get it?!?!

:: shifty eyes ::

This weekend I plan to play “catching up” with my life. It’s been so long since I swept my office floor that some of the dirt in the grout is celebrating graduation from college… I’ve given up trying to keep the pile of clean laundry and the pile of dirty laundry separate… I have so many soap custom orders to do that I’m contemplating just moving out of town without a forwarding address instead of filling them (hahahah, kidding, Sonya) (or am I?) … I can’t even remember where I am in my list of custom order yarn mugs… and speaking of ceramics I’m about two kiln loads behind… and the front yard is telling me it’s about time for the annual air potato culling. All I want to do, though, is crawl back into bed and sleep away the weekend. Perhaps another cup of coffee is in order this morning…?

Five feet and countingLast night was the first night in over two months I have gotten ready for bed without double-checking that I’ve put the next day’s yarn in water to soak overnight so that I can start dyeing yarn the minute I wake up in the morning.

I kept saying to Tim, “I feel like I’ve forgotten to do something!”

Now I have 58 skeins to wind in the next 24 hours… but fuck! I’m done dyeing!

(OK, I still have the May sock club yarn to dye, but I’ve decided out of sheer exhaustion that it’s going to be an easy color).

Yesterday afternoon was the first time I’ve let myself plan for a HaldeCraft project beyond May 4th (a new literary soap set). Sure, I have custom order ceramics I’ve been working on all this time, but they’ve been more a worry than a plan; I can’t just fire the kiln for one piece, which means that every time I need to fire to complete a custom order, I need to produce enough to fill the entire kiln. Time consuming, and I’ve been feeling pulled in four different directions for weeks and weeks now. But it’s all worth it, right? People will love the yarn tomorrow? I haven’t just been wasting time? Sigh. I feel like tomorrow I am going to throw a huge party, and have no idea how many people will come. Everyone, or no-one. I’ll know in 24 hours!

Oh, this book. This book!

The only time I have for reading these days is about an hour a day before I go to sleep; so I have to be honest… after two days, I almost started this book over, thinking I must have been too tired to understand it. After four days, I almost put it aside, thinking that I am not a hoopy frood who knows where his towel is and am clearly too meshugganah to grok this literature.

I’m not a big fan of books that – and I’ve seen this more in fantasy than science fiction – without explanation of the term, throw in words that either don’t mean anything [in our time, now] but clearly do [in the setting of the book] or words that mean one thing [to us now] and something completely different [and, again, unexplained] in the book. Or words that are nouns, used as verbs. Get where I’m going with this? So I almost put it aside, because, Sweet Zombie Jesus. I’m not stupid but I am easily frustrated.

After about 100 pages (and I’ll pretty much give any book 100 pages, as that’s when most of them begin to hit their stride) I was hooked. I trusted the author, having enjoyed other books by him, and it totally paid off. By the time that the flashbacks stopped, and everything was being told as-is, going forward, I didn’t even want it to end. And in the end, even the beginning made sense; it’s all about language.

Low water at Biven's ArmI forgot to post this the other day; Tim and I went to lunch at Chopstix and this was the view. I think that’s the lowest I’ve ever seen the water. We didn’t see any alligators, although we saw their tracks in the mud close to the dock. And we saw a few turtles (including some baby ones) and a whole lot of birds. I guess with the water so low, the fish are getting more crowded together. It must make for good pickings – I think we saw more bird activity in an hour than we’ve seen the last couple of times we’ve been there.

And while all this sunny weather we’re having is helping me to dry the yarn faster, it’s hot as blazes, the water table is dropping like someone pulled the drainplug, and some of my new plants are not faring well. We could use some rain.

Tim made pretzelsTim has been working on a lot of different bread recipes, and I must say that these pretzels (which he’s made two weeks in a row now for watching Game of Thrones over at Aunt Gay and Uncle Joe’s house) are really, really top-notch!

Add just a little bit of spicy mustard….? OM NOM NOM.
