Whoa, it’s the 29th of September? WHERE IS THIS YEAR GOING?!
No; that’s not the Question of the Week… that’s just me freaking out that the previous nine months seem to have disappeared. I swear, it was *just* January.
Anyway.
The new Question of the Week is…
Would you consider moving to another state than the one in which you now live, for a job? Is it as easy as “yes” or “no” or would it depend on the state? Would it depend on the job?

Well, we did - and we probably will again...it certainly depends on state and job.
I'm in a position where - if I went for a particular promotion - I could be relocated back to GA, where many of my family and friends are. But that job would require so much more than I'm willing to give - would be "upper management" with much more responsibility than this grunt-worker wants. I'd be closer, but I'd have less free time.
There have been other opportunities to relocate - to Colorado (condidered it), outside of Los Angeles (big fat no), and Wisconsin (might be an interesting change), but it all came down to not wanting these "golden handcuffs" getting any bigger.
We'll probably move again with Joe's job, but I'd imagine it would be deeper into New England or something. That would be cool. Maybe then I could just raise chickens or something...
Hmm . . . well, I already don't live where I work. I guess the actual answer for me would be yeah, temporarily. If I was offered a semester or year teaching in Europe or someplace else cool. Or back to my alma mater Iowa, preferably not during the winter.
Unca Joe
YES. Because you never know where the adventure is. That being said, it depends completely on the opportunity and the place. We need a bigger house and lots of opportunities to be outdoors. North Carolina has always seemed appealing. And of course we would seriously consider living overseas, if only for a few years.
If it were simple (no selling houses, no divorcing husbands who refuse to move:-)
Then there are very few places I wouldn't go. Namely... ME, NH, VT, NE, ND, SD, WY, MT, AZ, NM, CA. anywhere else is fair game :-D and if there was a job that paid me more than I make right now I would move to Oregon even with the silly house and husband that are stuck in MA :-p
Have done it before a couple of times by myself - would like to do it now but it will take dynamite under someone's pharmacistic (I just made that word up) arse to get out of this house, so I suppose I'll be staying put for the time being.
I don't think there's any state that would be completely off limits, but the older I get, the warmer I like to be in winter.
Nope. We're happy where we are, with all our parents, grandparents and step siblings in the same general area. We moved back here after our eldest was born so we could be closer and develop the kind of relationship with the kids' grandparents that grows out of frequent contact. And I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Of course, that being said, if DH lost his job and the only other job he could find was somewhere else, then circumstances could force the move on us. Thankfully I don't foresee that happening.
I don't even want to move to another local office! My house is close to my job and my dear offspring. Not to mention the problem of finding another place to live. I'd probably have to burn this house behind me and start over. It would be easier than moving.
Yes, job and state dependent.
oh, wow. Well, despite being staggeringly Yankee at heart and going back many generations with it, even, Yes, I probably will need to do this in about a year. Depends where I get in for grad school. If there's a really good program, I'll go to where it is. But some of the very best ones are right here in MA, so if I'm very very good and lucky and all that, I'll just stay here.
I'd move if it would mean a big increase in income...and ummmmm, if there was a beach there
The answer would be a qualified yes...I'm a big fan of roots, especially considering the friendships and family bonds our son has had a chance to build being here. I also think it is deeply important to experience other ways, other places, other sights, other cultures. So...YES! If the job was worth it, the move itself wouldn't be reason enough not to do it.
I had interviews in California and Arizona. I would have moved to either if they had actually offered me the jobs. Thanks goodness they didn't. While I would have gone, I don't think I'd have been as well off quality of life-wise as I am now.
In many ways I'd love to, but unless it was an incredible opportunity career-wise, I'd probably not. I'm my mom's only brat, and the closest child to my dad. They're both getting up there and it's nice to know I'm nearby if they need me.
mine is up!!!!

Yes. I would love to leave nebraska. I would have to consider where though. There are some places I would never want to live. Now offer me a good job (and one for Hubby) in the Rocky Mnts and I am there! Yeah tons of snow but people know how to deal there. and I can wear my hand knits almost year round.
Heck man, I'd move to another planet if the job was right.
Attention hiring aliens - this is not a joke. I mean it.
We've already moved so many times...sigh. Never say never, but it would have to be one HELL of a job, AND in a place I really like. Otherwise, no way am I starting over again with yet another house and having to make new friends all over again.
I love my job, and don't see leaving my school anytime soon, so it would take something big (marriage, for instance!) to move me. The state would definitely be taken into consideration. I loved the East Coast, but it was so incredibly far from my family...so I don't know. It would factor in a lot of things but I am always up for a new adventure!
