A modified “Bling Bag”
Pattern: Bling Bag (available here)
Yarn: Malabrigo (is that a hard “g” or a soft “g”? I never know how to pronounce it!)
Needles: Uhm, I’ve already totally forgotten, as I actually knitted it up a few months ago but just felted it last week. I know they were circulars (DPNs once I got to the decreases) and they were either size 7s or 8s.
Notes: I did a number of modifications on this pattern, both intentional and not. I didn’t use the intended yarn, so I didn’t make the little acorns (they’re devilishly cute, but I thought they’d look a little bulbous with the different yarn). I think I felted it a little TOO much, because the yarn-overs were lost and I had to really work to open them back up. So much work, in fact, that I stopped at four and ran the handles through differently than originally intended. Which meant I needed a different way to anchor the handles, so I used some buttons that have a long history within my family. And then when I was sewing the handles on, for some reason I had turned the bag inside out at some point, and I sewed the buttons on while the bag was wrong side (purl side) facing. Everyone at my Stitch ‘n’ Bitch said that it was not a big drama and to leave it, so I did.
Now, back to the felting! Here’s a before shot:
And here’s after (it’s about 9 inches wide now, so it shrunk about 2 inches all around:
And here’s a close-up of the buttons:

Just an observation.

Maybe Karen, over in Scotland, could mail me a fellow to try it out on? I mean, Tim's not exactly the kilt-wearing type.
