Dish-- no, washcloth
Yarn: Vickie Howell’s Craft (South West Trading Company)
Needles: Size 4 straights
Pattern: My own, for a class at the shop on the difference between cables, slipped, and twisted stitches.
Notes: It’s smaller than it was in my mind, but… what can you do?! I wanted to stay within one ball and was making up the pattern as I went along (thank you, Barbara Walker Treasury!). As it turned out I may have had enough to do another 16-row repeat in the middle; definitely eight rows. But I wasn’t going to rip out two inches in order to do it, especially for just a test knit. I am over the moon now about this yarn, and don’t ever want to use any other kind of cotton (it’s a 65% organic cotton/35% milk protein fiber). It was soft, light, didn’t hurt my wrists to work with, and held up well to an initial repeated ripping out until I got my stitch count correct. Really; I started this five or six times. This yarn holds up fantastically! If you are not knitting dishcloths and hand towels out of this yarn, you need to change your ways.

Wednesday’s Washcloth
Simple garter stitch pattern, done in scrap yarn. Took about three hours; I did it while we were at Bill and Doris’s last Thursday. Speaking of that, I have renovation pictures to share also…

Wednesday’s Washcloth
Oh, the drama, y’all. The drama. I had THE! CRAZIEST! Monday morning (you know when I’m telling Kelly about it, and she’s lauging so hard that she starts crying, that it is a completely blogworthy story) but I have not yet had the time to sit down and write the bitch up. So here is what I have of this weeks’ washcloth. So unfinished, thanks to a project that I’m alternately sobbing over and loathing that were taking up my size 6 straights (also needed for washcloth making!). So I put the cursed thing on a spare DPN and broke out the cotton.
I was going to post about the other project over in the forums, but I think I’ll post something happy there instead and leave this other thing for later, after I can show it to Sharon tonight and decide if it needs to go for a lead swim in frog pond, or what.

Wednesday’s Washcloth
... looks like crap! Here it is pinned, so that you can’t see that for some reason the top is about an inch wider than the bottom, even though they’re the same number of stitches. Also, it’s a close-up, so that you can’t tell that even though it looked HUUUUUUGE on the needles, it’s really only about 5 inches by 5 inches. Teensy. Anyone expecting a newborn around Christmas, so I can foist this off on you...?

Wednesday’s Washcloth
I’ve recently purchased some wonderful stitch books… and I thought what could be better than learning new stitches using cotton yarn? This will burn through my stash of cotton (enabling me to buy more, duh) and produce a mass of Christmas gifts! I’m hoping to get one a week out of this, since they only take about two hours to make. We’ll see how long I stick with this plan.
Meanwhile, here we have Pattern #73, “simple eyelet diamonds”, from Vogue Knitting Stitchionary Volume One: Knit & Purl.
Can you spot the mistake?
