Monkey see, monkey do!
What with all that uninterrupted knitting time in the ER last night, I knocked out my second pair of Monkeys (if you’re keeping score of my overwhelming list of UFOs at home, this brings me down to… seven*)
Yarn: Colinette Jitterbug in “Marble” (I’ve used this yarn before)
Needles: Size 2 DPNs
Pattern: Monkey by Cookie A
Notes: Stashbusting project. Sock project. Project we can use as a sample in the shop because it promotes (a) a yarn we carry and (b) a free pattern from both a designer and online resource that we love. What is not to like about these socks?!
* Note to self: keep this list at seven or under from now on, mmmkay? That gives you one day a week per project, which really does mean that you can finish things faster. Honest.

Toe-up Ribbed socks
Yarn: Mind’s Eye Yarns sock club (January 2008 colorway)
Needles: Size 1 DPNs
Pattern: Made it up as I went along.
Notes: I made these a tad shorter than I usually do, so that I could give my extra yarn to Ginger (she’s using hers to make a baby outfit, and might need a smidge extra).

Pooley and Stripey, the fighting fraternal Monkey twins
Yarn: BMFA Socks That Rock in “Banded Agate”
Needles: Size 1 DPNs
Pattern: Monkey by Cookie A
Notes: I feel like the last person to take on this pattern, but can see why people make it again and again… it was like potato chips in that I could not put it down to work on other things! Man, was this yarn weird, though. Same yarn, totally different socks. They’re okay, but I’m glad they’re for me because I suspect a non-knitter would think they were mighty odd. If I do this pattern again, I would do them in a solid color, as I think that the pattern is lost in the pooling/striping of the yarn.

If the April scarf isn’t finished, I blame the monkeys
Cookie A was right… this pattern is addictive. I might not have much else to show for my week, but I am ready to begin the toes on my Monkeys…

Crosshatch Lace
Psst! Finn! Guess what will be put in the mail to you early next week...?
Yarn: Colinette Jitterbug in the colorway “Marble”
Needles: Size 2 Circs
Pattern: Crosshatch Lace from More Sensational Knitted Socks; toe-up, with a picot bind-off (of course).
Notes: These were such a breeze to make! I think it was a great match between pattern and yarn (neither one overpowering the other). I love this yarn, and would also make this pattern again.

Hooray for beer (socks)!
Yarn: The yarn came with the kit (link two lines down)
Needles: Size 1 DPNs
Pattern: Oktoberfest by The Tsarina of Tsocks
Notes: We found the kit for these almost a year ago. Loved it immediately. Somehow we came up with the idea of combining knitting beer socks with watching the Superbowl but due to drunkenness and winding and needle issues I don’t think that any of us got started that night. I’ve finally finished mine; as you can see from the original pattern picture I have made my foamy head smaller, and I have almost half the white left over (just in case any of my other friends knitting this need some extra white yarn. I have a bit of the yellow left over, also.
Pictures are after the cut, in a nifty widget.

Snicket
Like a phoenix rising from the flames, Snicket has risen from a series of unfortunate events to become the most beautimous socks ever.
Yarn: Twisted Sisters Jazz in the “Raspberry” colorway
Needles: Size 2 DPNs
Pattern: Snicket, from Magknits
Notes: I wish I could keep these socks! I hope that the person who will be receiving them will absolutely love them for the work and heart that went into making them (if not, ahem, and it’s you, and you’re reading this now, and you don’t like them, feel free to send them back and I’ll make you something else! Hee hee!). I did modify the pattern slightly, in that I did a heel flap rather than short-row heels (I can really only give my short-row heel socks to people I know; I’m still not that good at them - but I am getting better!). I love, love, love, love, love this pattern, and when I bound these off it was so difficult not to immediately cast them on again in a different yarn!
Did I mention how much I love this pattern? And how well I think it works with the subtle variations in the yarn? Beautiful. Oh yeah (chicka-chick-kaw *bawmp bawmp*) ... oh yeah. (<-- Hai! I am trapped in the eighties, echoing in your head!.)
1. Snicket; finished (1 of 3), 2. Snicket; finished (2 of 3), 3. Snicket; finished (3 of 3)

Scottish Highlands socks
Yarn: Socks That Rock (lightweight) in the “Scottish Highlands” colorway
Needles: Size 2 circulars
Pattern: Figure-8 toe-up cast on, getting-better-but-still-a-bit-horribly mangled short-row heels, feather & fan pattern that I had to modify in order to get the stitch count to fit better, and a picot bind-off which I know stuns you all silly.
Notes: I started out making these for me, but I have a friend who has been in my thoughts lately and I think I might wind up sending them off to her… but first I have to check my notes about her foot size!

Don’t think twice, it’s all right
Lyrics by Bob Dylan; sock drama by me.
It ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don’t matter, anyhow
An’ it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don’t know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I’ll be gone
You’re the reason I’m trav’lin’ on
Don’t think twice, it’s all right

Is there a better model for socks than beer?
Introducing Snicket, my Sockapalooza 4 “angel” socks.
I love, love, love, love, love this pattern. It’s a little hard on my hands but I suspect that’s entirely my own fault, for wanting to cable without a cable needle. Did I mention that I love this pattern? I’m fascinated by the twisting 1x1 cable. I’m enchanted by the way the knit stitches, knit through the back loop, seem to jump up off of the purls and grab your attention.
I may have a very hard time giving these away.
But isn’t that the point, when knitting a gift for someone? To make them something filled with love and joy, something that you enjoy knitting and hope that they love as much as you loved making it?
The yarn used here is Twisted Sisters Jazz, in Raspberry. (And yes, I’m already eying my stash to see what other colors I have that would work well with this pattern, for myself...)
