In which I confuse people by making this look like a scarf I already made last month

May is for Ari

Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in “Berry”
Needles: Size 2 straights or circulars
Pattern: May is for Ari
Notes: Continuing with 2008: A Year in Scarves… we have May is for Ari. Ari is the twin sister of my now five-year-old god-daughter (who was the inspiration for last month’s scarf), and of course she is also very into pink! Although the girls are twins, they aren’t identical. So just like Ari being both skinnier and taller than her sister, the May scarf is thinner and longer than April’s scarf. They are both, however, made from the same yarn (the scarves, not the sisters) and have very similar stitch patterns. Similar, but not exactly alike.

Buy my yarn leavings?

Tuesday I tackled this:

Organize me

With the stuff I decided to flat out pitch, I got it down to eight bins. If anyone wants to buy any of the following grab bags, I can get it down to seven bins. Be forewarned that none of this is “the good stuff”. It’s all stuff I bought with projects in mind and then either started and gave up on, or never got around to starting, or is the extra from project over-buying, etc. Most of this would be great for charity knitting, or baby afghans, and so on. I really need to destash, and this is the easiest stuff to start with. I just couldn’t bring myself to start with the sock yarn! So, take a look if you dare. There are two prices; one if you can pick it up (I can bring it to the shop, as I am most easily found there) and a different price including postage if I’m mailing it to you. I happily take cash, PayPal, or if I know you, a check. Sorry, no bartering with pigs or chickens.

I'm not done yet!

Xmas 2008 hat #3

Hat #3!

Yarn: Noro Kureyon colorway #207
Needles: Size 7 circulars
Pattern: It’s a HAT! Cast on in the afternoon. Knit ribbing while waiting at Hops. Knit in the round until Iron Man tests his suit. Decrease the next day. Bind off.
Notes: I had to have something to knit when we went to go see Iron Man the other night, so… here it is! Future Christmas gift!

I… I … I honestly have no words for this.

I loves me some Tom Stoppard. And some Shakespeare. And also some vampires. You would think I would not be so stunned about Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Undead. Yet; I am. Speechless.

Funniest thing I’ve heard all morning?

“I look nothing like the girl in this picture. I am a pig-eyed horse-frightener with an electronic part.”

I am in ur sweater, seamin ur sleeves

Rogue, ready to finish

One sleeve is sewed on; one still to go. I may actually finish this sweater in this lifetime… though I still suspect the store may catch on fire/we might have an earthquake/freak tornado… something massive may happen that will cause me not to finish this…

Feed my head

I don’t know what blogging will be like over the next week, as I might be really crazy busy. Then again, I might not...! My energy level will completely depend on the ebb and flow of the shop.

In case I get busy and/or unable to think over the next ten days… why don’t y’all jump start my brain-- give me some topics to write about/questions to answer/things you want photographed/whatever!

Sharon’s away, the mice will play!

Sharon has gone on her yearly trip to visit her family in West Virginia (via S. and N. Carolina, and Baltimore) and she’ll be gone for about ten days (Ginger is working some at the yarn store during Sharon’s vacation, so I’m not 100% on my own). I need some ideas… what sort of truly bizarre things can I email/text message her about while she’s gone? Nothing potentially scary (like the store is robbed or burned down) but something really genius and funny that juuuuuuust might be believable (busload of cranky old people coming for a field trip).

I think I found the fountain of relaxation

St. George Inn mosaic

We relaxed the rest of the 24 hours away at the St. George Inn (which we highly recommend). You can see the photo set here.

The closest we get to castles over here

Castillo de San Marcos mosaic

The Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine. You can see the whole set here.

Believe it or not, even with all this walking around, we really did relax! Relaxing photos to come tomorrow.

Plan for the day…

Out the door in about 15 minutes; St. Augustine bound. When we get there? Lighthouse. Browsing. Lunch. B&B. Photos. 2nd story porch balcony with a great view for people-watching. Knitting. Rocking chair. Quality time with my sweetie. A good dinner. A good night’s sleep.

No laptop. No checking work email. All twitters set to web-only for the day. Marginally reachable on my cell phone, if someone is on fire or has free tickets to Eddie Izzard for me.

Love you all, have a wonderful Sunday!

Tomorrow, this will be my view

image

A couple of weeks ago, I sent Sharon away on a Sunday (she’d gotten the schedule wrong and had booked a class for that Saturday) so that she could go to an annual event that is important to her and her sweetie. She came back and said that she felt so rejuvenated after even just one day away that I should try it too. Since she’s going away for a couple of weeks starting next week, I chose this Sunday so that I would be well-rested and recharged for being Charles In Charge for ten days. Tim and I talked it over and first thing tomorrow morning we’re driving to St. Augustine where we will be staying in this lovely-looking B&B overnight on Sunday, returning Monday morning. Our plans are to do a few touristy things in the early part of the day tomorrow (lighthouse, etc.) and after that my ass will be in the above rocking chair, people-watching, and knitting. Unfortunately with the massive amounts of Benadryl I’m taking, it’s probably not too safe for me to drink the two bottles of wine I’d planed on (har!) but even just sitting and relaxing is going to be heavenly. Tomorrow is going to be all about… well, me and my sweetie. Computer will be left at home, and while I will have my cell phone it will be set to silent, and I’ll be ignoring Twitters for a day. I’m sure the Interwebs will survive without me. You kids behave, okay?!

My dark sense of humor: let me show you it

Scene: Emergency Room Bed. I have just finished binding off two socks and ask Tim to pass me another one out of my bag so that I can keep knitting, as we may be there forever.

Tim: I can’t believe you’re knitting… more.
Me: Hey, I don’t seem to be dying. So if I’m not dying, I’m knitting.
Tim: I think even if you were dying, you’d still be knitting.
Me (looking at sock): Yeah, even if I was dying, I’d still be knitting this. There’s no way Sharon would want to finish this sock for me, these totally aren’t her colors.

HAW!

Scene: Work, talking with two of our fabulous regulars (who incidentally make the best Snickerdoodle cookies EVER). I am explaining my new regimen of Prednisone once a day and Benadryl every six hours.

Her: I can’t believe you’re awake! After all that Benadryl I would be asleep.
Me: I think it’s the Prednisone keeping me tanked up. You know, steroids. I totally want to kick someone’s ass… after I take a nap.
He: [laughs out loud]

DOUBLE HAW!

Thank you, thank you! I’ll be here all week!
