Xmas 2008 hat #3
Yarn: Noro Kureyon colorway #207
Needles: Size 7 circulars
Pattern: It’s a HAT! Cast on in the afternoon. Knit ribbing while waiting at Hops. Knit in the round until Iron Man tests his suit. Decrease the next day. Bind off.
Notes: I had to have something to knit when we went to go see Iron Man the other night, so… here it is! Future Christmas gift!

Xmas 2008 hat #2
Yarn: Noro Kureyon colorway #102
Needles: Size 7 circs
Pattern: It’s a HAT! Cast on. Knit in the round. Decrease. Bind off.
Notes: I had finished my other hat the previous night, and needed a mindless project to knit when Tim and I went to a movie last night. Cast on in the car, did the ribbing while waiting for dinner, and knit the body during the movie. Finished the decreases during the season premiere of Deadliest Catch (worked on that rather than Rogue, because Tim was teasing me about starting YET ANOTHER PROJECT. HAH! I showed him!). Also; future Christmas gift!
Xmas 2008 hat #1
Yarn: Noro Kureyon colorway #211
Needles: Size 9 circs
Pattern: It’s a HAT! Cast on. Knit in the round. Decrease. Bind off.
Notes: Needs a little fulling; I really should have used 7s, not 9s.

Irish Hiking Hat
Eventually, some day, I will blog about something other than knitting and spinning. UNTIL THAT DAY, however…
Yarn: Lion Brand Wool-Ease
Needles: Size 7 circs
Pattern: Irish Hiking Hat (Ravelry link)
Notes: Took me longer than it should have; I just had so much going on and this just wasn’t on the top of the list. However, DING! Done now, a little over a month before I needed it.
BTW, my bangs have not grown out that much, they’re just smooshed down under the brim of the hat.

Hats for the twin’s parents
I couldn’t make hats for the twins without making hats for their fabulous mommy and daddy as well…
Yarn: Plymouth Encore and a strand of Socks that Rock held together (man’s) / Mystery Moorehouse Merino (woman’s)
Needles: Size 8 circs for both
Pattern: basic roll-brim hat
Notes: knitted during movies until the decreases; finished off at home/work

Hats for Twins
Yarn: Some unlabeled yarn that I picked up from Morehouse Merino and neglected to write down anything about.
Needles: Size 7 circs
Pattern: One roll-brim, one watch-cap style
Notes: Quicker than Cheesecake!

Sunflower Tam
Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted in the “Aslan” colorway
Needles: Size 8 circs followed by size 9 DPNs for the decreases and i-cord
Pattern: Sunflower Tam from Knitting Nature
Notes: I made this as a chemo cap for a friend’s sister. I chose this pattern because I didn’t want the typical beanie-style, or a simple rolled-brim hat for her. I want something that she can feel fashionable while wearing, and that she’d still be fine with wearing after her hair begins to grow back. And I chose the Aslan colorway (don’t everybody laugh at my hippie nature here) because of the Narnia books. Aslan is strength, Aslan is love; and my friend’s sister needs to be surrounded by both of those as much as possible right now.

The “waiting for the ferry” hat
I knit this up while we were at Disney, while waiting for the ferry (or monorail) and while standing around. It looks a bit loose on me because I knit it with someone else in mind. Christmas is coming, you know!
Yarn: Farmhouse Yarns Woodland Spun (a gift during SP9)
Needles: Size 8 circs followed by size 9 DPNs
Pattern: simple roll-brim hat with size based on gauge.
Notes: I probably should have knit this on 10’s, but I didn’t have those with me. But it’s going up North in a couple of months, so perhaps the dense-ness will be appreciated.

This week in knitting
Yarn: My own handspun
Needles: Size 5 circulars and DPNs
Pattern: Basic rolled brim hat
Notes: I made this a little small since the recipient is a tiny woman; now I’m worried it’s a little *too* small… we’ll see. I’ve been working on this for the last week in the few spare minutes I have, and I was hoping to get it in the post today, if the phone guy comes early so that I can get out of the shop for a few minutes to run to the post office.

Kelly’s hat
Now that I’ve given Kelly’s hat to her, I can blog about it!
Yarn: Tulip, my handspun (blogged here)
Needles: Ummm… brain fart… size 6 circulars and DPNs? I don’t think it was size 7s… must have been a 6.
Pattern: Basic roll-brim hat that once you figure out basic hat-knitting construction, everyone can do.
Notes: I love that the yarn I spun for this matches the Knucks that I made her for Christmas. I’m sensing a theme here… Hee hee hee.

The Stuck-in-Traffic hat
Yarn: Brown Sheep Company Handpaint Originals “Fall” (birthday gift last October from a friend with great taste!)
Needles: Size 6 circulars until the decreases; then size 6 DPNs
Pattern: Cast on about 100. Knit for two inches. Realize that it’s just a tad too big. Decrease 5. Knit for another six inches or so. Decrease every few stitches every other row until you run out of yarn. Weave in ends.
Notes: I’ve been working on this for just a couple of weeks while in the car, either driving around town or going out to Bill & Doris’s house (uhm, do I need to point out that TIM IS DRIVING, not I?). Finished it up last night during and right after SnB. I had two hanks of it, and should have enough left over from the second hank to make a matching pair of Knucks!
PS. This could also be called “the nipple hat"…

Two-hour hat
Here’s a hat that I made in about two hours.
You know; now that it’s warm enough to not need a hat.
Recipe for two-hour hat:
Make a date to go to a bad movie with your uncle.
Realize you need to have something simple to knit during movie.
Do math for suggested ball-band gauge, from bulky yarn from stash you’ve been saving for a simple hat.
Think that 48 stitches is too small, cast on 60 instead.
Work one round at work while waiting for data to upload into new database.
Think that maybe 48 was the right number.
Get to movie, work about an inch during previews. Look like a dork trying it on, and realize that 60 stitches is way too big for chunky yarn. Decrease to 55.
Work another couple of inches. Look like dork in movie by trying on hat again, hoping that stitches don’t come off circular needles in the dark.
Realize that 55 is still a bit too big; decrease to 50.
Knit during horrible movie until hat feels to be about seven or eight inches so far.
Stop knitting, watch rest of horrible movie.
Take uncle home, laugh about movie with him in car.
Get home, switch to DPNs, and do decrease rows before going to neighborhood crime watch meeting.
Get back home from crime watch meeting, look at hat, think, “that’s really too big.”
Weave in ends of yarn in morning before walking dog.
Walk dog while wearing hat. Think that if you pulled it down any lower you might look like that kid from Fat Albert.
Consider giving hat to person with freakishly large head.

Helmet Liner
Finally finished and ready to be put in the mail, the Helmet Liner.
Yarn: KnitPicks Wool of the Andes
Needles: Size 7 and 8 circulars
Pattern: Found here
Notes: I had some issues with the pattern as far as short rows go; and either it was off at the end or I can’t count because I believe the instructions suddenly changed from ribbing to broken ribbing (on purpose? My counting error? Who knows!) so it kind of looks like it was knit by a drunken 5th grader. But, it’s done.

Knitted hat-a-rama
In the extended are eight hats I’ve knitted for various Christmas presents.
Diane? Katherine? Don’t look unless you want a preview of what your respective young’uns are getting.
The other four hats shall remain nameless. For now.

The happy flappy cap
How stinkin’ cute is this hat?!
Pattern based on one found in the August - October 2005 issue of Cast On; except that, you know, I used a different yarn, which called for a different gauge, and then I didn’t make the ear flaps because who needs those in Florida, and gave it a ribbed brim instead, etc etc.

Chili vs. The Hat
I finished knitting my first hat yesterday. It’s smaller than I thought it would stretch to (the gauge lied. LIED!) so it’s not going to Jeff after all. That’s okay; it’s still a functioning hat-- just for someone with a smaller head.
But not Chili.
He literally jumped two feet in the air and a foot to the left when he lept on my desk and landed next to The Hat. (Did he think he was doing the Time Warp?) Fortunately my camera was right next to me.
What the fuck is this?!
Should I play with it? Attack it?
Will it let me sniff its butt?
Mommy, I do not like this fuzzy thing at all. Please make it go away because I am afraid of it. If you don’t take it away I will pee on it out of total fear.
