In which I cry like a little girl
Got eight minutes and Kleenex?
I cried again, just watching it!
My friends rock so hard. They rock like big rocking things that rock a lot!

On the generosity of friends
A few months ago I did the Knitter’s Tea Swap (she’s getting ready for round 4, y’all better get in there!) and this swap was done a little differently than before in that you were matched with one person and you spoiled each other (rather than having an upstream and a downstream pal). My pal turned out to be Lara, and the more we chatted - even after the swap - the more we realized that we may have been separated at birth. Chances are that if one of us likes it, the other one will as well, and I mean that in a scary “how many knitters and spinners can there be out there who are snarky and love well-portrayed zombies and the indie comic Strangers in Paradise?” kind of way. Not just in a “hey, we both love fiber” kind of way.
Well, she had said at the end of the swap that she had a tacky magnet for me (I collect them) and as I also had something for her, we decided to do another swap. I haven’t sent mine off yet (I had a little cat-induced issue) but the package she sent me got here Friday--
1. I  Lara, 2. Moose!, 3. Good to be a girl, 4. Squee!
Forget adopting you, Lara… will you marry us and join the YarnStore Borg Collective...?

Have I mentioned how much I love knitting swaps?
Combining three of my addictions… knitting; Ravelry; and swaps.
I signed on for a “Summer Camp” swap in Ravelry, even though I only ever went to summer camp once and it was close to being the most socially hellish experience of my first fifteen years on the planet. This experience was muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better! It turns out that the person I was spoiling was also spoiling me, and did she do me right or what?!
Let me mostly call your attention to that hot little black book of patterns. Eeeeeeeeee hee hee hee hee! Thank you, Shannon! I can’t wait to get started on those Valentine Candy pillows! Hey, I might have to make a couple of those for the store. Tee!

Speechless
Long-time readers will remember when I went to Scotland in 2005 (with knight-errant, Antony), and met The Amazing Karen (is she not the cutest?!). Well, Karen really liked the purse I’d gotten at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It has lots of pockets, and is sturdy, and hey-- Disney! So we agreed upon trading another Disney purse for a University of Glasgow hoodie. I got my package in the mail yesterday (I love that I get gifts on Tim’s birthday! Tee!).
I’m leaving it full-size so that you can see the detail, especially the earrings--
Have you ever felt that even though you did something really nice for someone, that you just… didn’t do enough? That they are so amazing and thoughtful that you could only ever hope to do something for them that compares to what they’ve done for you? I feel that way about most of my Very Good Friends, and Karen is no exception. I FEEL SO SPOILED! Tee. I want to put a second package in the mail to her right away! Not only did she send me the perfect hoodie (I wore it last night, btw, and the earrings too) but she sent me postcards with lovely notes written on the back, teas (one of them says “the perfect hangover cure” and I tell you, I could have used that on the 1st!), pencils and a pen, cute and useful marking pins, lovely blue yarn, some of her favorite - and discontinued! - cotton yarn (I was thinking “Picovoli” but Knitter Kelly suggested “Tank Girl” from SnB), and… drumroll please… white chocolate Malteasers. Which I love. And can’t get here. I wonder how long I can ration those out to myself...! Of course there is the lovely warm (and perfectly colored) hoodie, and attached to the hoodie I’ve put the beautiful Charles Rennie Mackintosh earrings.
Oh, Karen, thank you! Sometimes I think people in this world, no matter how far apart, were just destined to meet and become friends. And I’m so very grateful for having met you, my very dear friend!

Winding Balls
Sounds painful!
Okay; now that we have that gutter joke out of here, let me show you the swift and ball-winder that The Best! Husband! Evah! (TM) got for me, for Christmas--
Here’s Tim- in action- winding little balls (they actually come out like cakes, not balls, but I just like saying “ball-winder") of Lorna’s Laces “Mixed Berries” yarn, which will [eventually] be a pair of socks for moi. The yarn is not Christmas yarn (of which, Tim did Very Well and got me Much Sock Yarn) but some that I picked up on the great Boston/Scotland Yarn Spree earlier this year. I am so itching to get my fingers on this yarn that I may have to make some late gifts even later just so I can knit these up quickly.

I am the Needle Master
As a “happy going to Scotland, don’t buy the place out of yarn” gift, my wonderful hubby got me the Boye Needlemaster set--
Using which, you can make upteen different circular needle sets. Wheeeee!
