Strip one of seven (part one)
This weekend (in addition to driving my own car into a ditch like a dumbass) I started on the first strip of Tim’s new afghan.
I figure each strip will be between 8-12 inches wide depending on the pattern I choose. Therefore, to get a 6’x6’ afghan I’ll need roughly seven strips. Oh, it’s going to just suck to have to do all that knitting using this lovely Mmmmmalabrigo. (tee)
There is no due date for this afghan. This is just something for me to work on over the next couple of years. No; really. I’m taking this one slow on purpose, not slow because I hate working on it.

Tim’s lapghan
As modeled by Rembrandt.
Yarn: Lion Brand Homespun (WHAT WAS I THINKING?!), 2 strands held together throughout.
Needles: Size 17 circulars
Pattern: Feather & Fan
Dimensions: About six feet by 4 1/2 feet
Notes: Too many to mention.
Here’s the conversation that Tim and I had last night--
Me: Honey, I need to talk to you about your afghan.
Tim: What about it?
Me: Uhm… and I say this with love in my heart? But? How married to this yarn are you...?
Tim: (laughs for a good minute)
Me: See, because, ah, I’m really struggling with this. I want you to have a nice afghan, and…
Tim: (still laughing)
Me: It’s just that, see, this afghan? It started off as a joke, you know, as a joke gift to distract you from your real gift that year…
Tim: Why don’t you just bind it off and we’ll call it finished?
Me: ... well, I know you want an afghan that’s warm and cozy, and this one isn’t long enough yet, but it’s just so hard to bring myself to work on it…
Tim: Why don’t you just bind it off and we’ll call it finished?
Me: ... and I’ve started it about five different times, and ripped it out, and I just really need to be done with it…
Tim: Why don’t you just bind it off and we’ll call it finished?
Me: ... but what I want to do is make you a better afghan! Look, this one’s already full of holes! (sticks fingers through feather & fan pattern)
Tim: (starts laughing again)
Me: ... so if you’re okay with it? What I might do? Is bind this off and call it finished? And then get better yarn and make you a better, softer, afghan made with absolute love and not a desperate need to just be finished with your nemesis?
Tim: (still laughing)
Me: So you’re sure you’re okay with that?
Tim: It makes no sense to keep working on something that stresses you out! Just bind it off! (still laughing)
Thus… I bring you the end of my longest unfinished object.
WITH GOD AS MY WITNESS, I SHALL NEVER TOUCH LION BRAND HOMESPUN AGAIN! (cue music)
