Notes: I originally made this as a chemo cap for a friend of mine who was diagnosed with cancer around Thanksgiving; she is a fun person with a great sense of humor and she smiles easily… but I’m afraid that the silliness I was going for with this hat overtipped into true dorkiness, so now I don’t want to send it to her, thinking it might be more childish than fun.

Yarn: Perhaps Today is a Good Day to Dye in “Grey Gardens”

Pattern: One that I wrote up and just released – Juniper Windows. (I mentioned it previously here).

Notes: This pattern is available as a free Ravelry download.

Juniper Windows is a fun hat with a cabled pattern I’ve wanted to try for a while; it reminds me of the 120-year-old windows of the house my husband’s family used to own in South Bend, on Juniper Road.

There are two versions of this pattern in one; for a long hat with i-cord, follow as written… and for a shorter (“normal sized”) hat simply take out the section with rows 26-61, throw a few more decreases at the top and cinch it shut rather than do the i-cord.

This pattern is charted only, and probably wouldn’t be great for a first-time hat or cable knitter, but the adventurous intermediate knitter should be able to handle it, and of course the advanced knitter should be able to whip one out.

Yarn: Perhaps Today is a Good Day to Dye, Superwash Merino Worsted, in “Grey Gardens”

Pattern: I will be releasing this as a free pattern in January.

Notes: There will also, in the pattern, be another version that will be normal hat size and won’t have i-cord deelies.

Pattern: Coronet by Alexandra Virgiel

Notes: Made for class at shop; will be gifting later this year. I LOVE THIS PATTERN. Every time I make it, I want to make more and change out the cable. Sadly every time I make it I’m also always pressed for time and can’t make more.

Yarn: Blue Sky Alpaca Sport Weight 100% Alpaca

Pattern: Modified from a headband pattern I made years ago (and many times since), Nakiska by Amy Swenson

Notes: I threw in different cables since I’ve made this pattern about six times. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great pattern (obviously since I’ve made it so many times) but sometimes I just like to change it up.

Yarn: Sirdar Denim Chunky

Pattern: Eh, it’s a hat. Figure out your gauge, cast on, go till it’s as long as you want, decrease.

Notes: Tim wanted a hat for his birthday; since it wasn’t an afghan I was all “hells yeah!”
