Love is looking in the same direction

LoveDoesIt’s a good thing that Tim likes puzzles, because the sheer amount of things that need to be done, all seemingly at the same time, is starting (starting? HAH!) to wreck my head. Every time I start getting all, “I don’t know what to do NEXT! Everything has to be done FIRST! We can’t do THIS until we do THAT and they both have to be done AT THE SAME TIME! a;dfja;dkjfa;dfsj” he just giggles and steeples his fingers and says “I know!” and then he giggles some more.

ONE OF US has gone insane. I’ll let you judge which one.

At our wedding, a drunken friend gave a speech that included, loosely, a quote about how true love is two people not looking at each other, but looking in the same direction. I’m so, so, so very grateful that Tim and I are both people more into looking in the same direction than in gazing at each other.

I feel like I’m running out of time to pack things, which on one hand makes complete sense but on the other hand is kind of stupid. It’s not like the last time I moved, when I had a lease on an apartment that ended on a certain day. Sure, my houseplants here may die if I don’t get them moved before Friday, but … I can grow more houseplants. (Sorry, Pothos…)

But I do need to start dyeing yarn for Yarn Club on Sunday, April 26th, or it won’t be ready to send out in time. The yarn I want to use is on cones, which means I need to spend Saturday winding it off cones and into skeins. Note to self: don’t forget to bring skeinwinder out to property.

So here’s what my schedule looks like for the next few days:

Wednesday (today): continue to pack. Run some errands. Consider going commando vs. buying new underwear as I am out of clean (WELCOME NEW FOLLOWERS), washer & dryer is at the property, and I don’t have time to go to the laundromat even though there’s one two blocks away from my house. Remember to eat something more/better than potato chips and ice cream. Go out to property if Tim needs me to bring him into town for any truck repair things. Otherwise, behave as I have for the last four days (pack, feed cats, let dogs in/out, feed dogs).

Tomorrow (Thursday 4/23): pack in morning. Get to property by 12. Bring all remaining yarn and dyeing/winding supplies, and any other HC things that will fit in car (bring dirty laundry if it will fit, but it can go the next day instead if I go buy new panties today. I say again, WELCOME NEW FOLLOWERS!). Installation window for cable/phone/internet is between 1 and 3 so I must be there for that.
Scenario “yay”: Cable/phone/internet is installed. I go back home for one more night. While at home I pack any immediately needed HC office supplies (computer, printer, paper, pens, packing supplies in case anyone makes a purchase, business planner, etc.). Continue to care for dogs and cats. Meet with my knitting group.
Scenario “boo”: Cable/phone/internet is unable to be installed. I go back home. Continue to care for dogs and cats. Continue to pack house things and/or any HC things not immediately needed, using crinkle paper instead of the packing peanuts I am now out of. Begin researching alternate cable/phone/internet needs. Meet with my knitting group.

Friday (4/24):
Scenario “yay”: I have a dentist appointment at 8 AM. After that, I load up the car with the dogs (note to self: don’t forget dog food), my dirty laundry, coffee pot, bathroom stuff, and all of the HC things I packed the day before, and head out to the property.
Scenario “boo”: After early morning dentist appointment, continue researching alternate cable/phone/internet needs, setting up an appointment for next week with whomever I choose. Continue to care for dogs and cats. Continue to pack what I can as by that point I may also be out of crinkle paper.

Saturday (4/25):
Scenario “yay”: I spend the day winding yarn off cones for dyeing on Sunday, working on the studio setup, and walking the dogs around the new property.
Scenario “boo”: Pack any immediately needed HC office supplies (computer, printer, paper, pens, packing supplies in case anyone makes a purchase, business planner, etc.). Load up the car with the dogs (note to self: don’t forget dog food), my dirty laundry, coffee pot, bathroom stuff, and all of the HC things I packed, and head out to the property. Spend the afternoon winding yarn off cones for dyeing on Sunday.

Sunday 4/26 through (approx) Sunday 5/3 or Monday 5/4: spend 10 hours a day dyeing yarn for yarn club. Try not to worry if we don’t have Internet yet, surely my customers will understand. Try not to worry that I can’t leave the property during that 10-hour stretch of work, and come back to the Gainesville house to pack the rest of the things, trust that Tim is understanding and will do it and not feel that I’m abandoning him and/or making him do it all himself. Unpack what I can in house and studio, considering most of the furniture to unpack things onto may still be stuck at the Gainesville house, as the truck may have met The True Death and graduation is coming up so good luck renting a U-Haul. Consider flipping out a bit if the scenario is more “boo” and less “yay”. Be grateful that I will have 15 acres in which I can flip out without too many people seeing.

Be grateful my husband is awesome like a hundred thousand hot dogs.

Be grateful we are looking in the same direction.

    1. A hundred thousand hot dogs is a lot.
The way you guys are doing this marriage thing makes me a little weepy from time to time, I gotta admit, because y’all totally are looking in the same direction, it seems.

  2. Moving is always hell. If you like, I can tell you about Rikk’s final move up here from Richmond and you can laugh at other people’s misery (yay schadenfreude!)

You and Tim are wonderful people. I love you both.
