I was telling Marie yesterday about one of my favorite voices, Natalie Merchant. I had to think about which song to put up here – and it was a tough decision – because I love many of the 10,000 Maniacs songs and also Merchant’s solo work. She is very much a thinking person’s song-writer, and has a voice so ethereal I would listen to her sing the phone book. I went with this one because it was the first Maniacs song I heard, and I first heard it when I moved away from Florida and lived in Reston, VA for a year. The sky really was cold and gray, and I really did want to sink down into that four poster. OMG, Marie, I should make you a mix tape! How totally high school!

Funny how we now have teh technology to make mixtapes effortlessly, and yet no one ever does it.
I want everyone I know to make me a mixtape. But they won’t.
